The slicer program is packed with a variety of useful slicing features that cater to beginners all the way to professionals. Cura is easily the most popular 3D slicer for FDM 3D printers, and it’s no question why. If you have a 3D printer, whether it’s a Creality Ender 3 or a MakerBot Replicator, and haven’t heard of Ultimaker Cura, then you probably live under a rock. PrusaSlicer (Best for Advanced Users)įirst, we’ll be going over the best free 3D slicers. Want to hear about some of the other best 3D slicing software programs? Just keep reading! For more advanced users, PrusaSlicer is a terrific option, with many unique slicing features, like top fill patterns, that give you a high level of control. If you’re looking for a free program that offers you the most control and customization over your printing process, Ultimaker Cura is a great choice. Today, there are many different 3D slicers you can choose from. ![]() As such, you can use slicer settings to control the strength, weight, and overall quality of your prints. If you change a setting, the resulting G-code also changes. These settings include things like the nozzle temperature, print speed, and so much more. 3D slicers provide adjustable parameters for the printing process, known as slicer settings. Slicing a model requires a 3D slicer software. Slicing a model turns a 3D model format, like an STL, into G-code, which is a set of instructions that your printer follows to actually make that part. ![]() If you want these from Bambu, you’ll have to pay a lot more for the X1 Carbon. If you want to 3D print something, you’ll need to slice it first. The Creality K1 is a good alternative if you must have a touchscreen, and it also has a few other features such as failed print detection. But, there are other ways to control the P1S, such as printing from a PC or phone via Wi-Fi. If there’s a downside, it’s the rubbish dot-matric screen which seems very out of place on a printer this expensive. More important, arguably, is that print quality is superb. It’s really fast thanks to the use of a coreXY system, and as it’s fully enclosed it’s reliable even when printing with tricky filament types because of the stable ambient temperature. If you don’t care about multicolour, you can buy the non-Combo version of the P1S for quite a bit less.Īnd beyond colours, the P1S is simply a remarkably good printer. But the AMS also takes the pain out of changing filament when you want to print something in a different colour to the previous print. With only one nozzle, multicolour prints aren’t exactly churned out quickly. That means this printer is the only one here, and pretty much the only consumer-level 3D printer that can print in multiple colours without any help from you. The highlight is that it comes with Bambu’s AMS, a unit that sits on top of the P1S printer and holds four spools of filament and can load and unload them automatically. It’s certainly the case here, but just because the P1S is more expensive doesn’t mean it isn’t still good value. ![]() This inevitably means the “best” will also be the most expensive. With so many tech products you get what you pay for. ![]()
